The events of the last few weeks have reopened important conversations about race and the injustices that exist within our communities. And it's a stark reminder of the MASSIVE CHANGE that needs to take place to address the problem of racism on every level.
At a.fatti, we stand in solidarity with our black and brown communities against racial discrimination, violence and the unjust systems that exist every day.
More importantly, we stand in ACTION – with the conviction that CHANGE is absolutely crucial, right now.
A STARTING POINT
The tragic death of George Floyd put a new spotlight on racial injustice, but the incident comes as no surprise to those who experience racism in their everyday lives.
Understanding how, where and why those injustices exist—and how they're felt—is a starting point for conversation.
This conversation is so important. Without a true understanding of racism, or the opportunity to engage in conversation about it, addressing the problem is impossible.
A CHANGE IN MINDSET
Everyone has implicit biases that affect how they view the world and react to it. Uncovering those biases is an important first step to moving forward.
At a.fatti, we often stress the importance staying uncomfortable, so we can continue to grow and learn. That same mindset can (and must) be applied to our understanding of each other, our cultures and our life experiences, both different and shared.
These conversations and self-reflections won't always be comfortable. But they're absolutely necessary.
BREAKING ROUTINE & COMPLACENCY
To enact change, we need to break out of complacency, reevaluate everything and SPEAK UP.
In sports, for example, athletes often stress the importance of "muscle confusion" and changing up your workouts to avoid hitting a plateau. The same goes for our mindset. We need to be willing to change our perspectives, open our minds and EVOLVE to get results of any kind. Otherwise, we aren't getting anywhere.
If we aren't willing to change, then change will never come.
